Why the Psychotherapy and
Spirituality Institute?

The Institute and St. Bartholomew’s are dedicated to assisting people in their emotional and spiritual development throughout the life cycle.

As mental health professionals, we at PSI have been in the forefront of welcoming individuals of all faiths who seek mental health care and who want to integrate their spiritual journey with their quest for psychological wellness. Our psychological training allows us to address complex emotional issues; at the same time we are respectful of an individual's spiritual concerns and orientation. Our sensitivity to issues of faith and spirituality make us unique in our ability to help in an individual's journey towards psychological wellness which is grounded in their spiritual practice.

We assist people in part by helping them find personal language to describe deep hurt, fear, and troubling life experience. Together we work towards healing, and in doing so construct a new and more integrated understanding of the past and present.

We seek to help people gain access to an expanded and flexible range of feelings and responses. In addition, we attend to the attachments that can limit or enfeeble us, whether to a substance, to a person, or to resentments.

Often, this means embarking on a journey from isolation to greater connectedness, from getting to giving, from filling our emptiness to caring for others.

The Institute is open to people of all religious traditions (and to those without a religious tradition), and seeks to support individuals in their quest for meaning.
