Reinventing Church
A message from Bill Tully
St. Bart’s has offered our Reinventing Church conference for five years, but this year we are taking a year off. We are genuinely sorry to disappoint some who had made plans as long ago as last year to be with us in 2008.
The simple truth is that St. Bart’s is itself “reinventing its reinvention.” We need time to take stock of how far we’ve come, and how different we’ve become as a result of our growth. It’s also true that the financial and budgetary challenge of sustaining our work at this higher level is weighing on us this year. In particular, I want some time to honestly assess what I teach.
Meanwhile, two organizations have kindly asked me to present some lectures on the general questions of church growth and leadership. I’ll use these as a chance to test some changes in my thinking, all the while hoping to be helpful and encouraging of the thing I value most: the local congregation and its possibilities.
• June 26-28 I’ll be speaking at the Trinity Divinity Associates Conference at Trinity College, Toronto. Registration is open to all. Click here for a pdf of their brochure.
• September 25-27, I’ll be the keynote speaker at Seabury-Western Seminary, Evanston, Illinois, for their annual Bread for the Journey conference, also open to all. We’ll post their material as soon as we receive it, but you might find information earlier on their website.
We are committed to Reinventing Church in June 2008, bigger and better than ever—our thinking and best practices, and the whole truth about St. Bart’s, glories, warts and all.
