The Sacrifice of Isaac: Reading the Same Story Two Ways

The sacrifice of Isaac (Genesis 22:1–19) is one of the most striking stories
in all of Scripture and has inspired a great deal of theological and
philosophical thinking, including Soren Kierkegaard’s monumental
treatise Fear and Trembling. But what if we’ve been reading it all wrong?
Could there be two stories embedded within the same text? The
Reverend Clayton Crawley, the Chief Church Relations Officer at the
Church Pension Fund and Assisting Priest here at St. Bart’s, delves into
the account that has puzzled scholars for millennia.
