Peter Thompson

Vicar and Interim Rector

Office: 212-378-0293

The Reverend Peter D. Thompson serves as Vicar and Interim Rector of St. Bartholomew's Church, overseeing all aspects of the parish's life as it prepares to welcome a new permanent leader in 2026 or 2027.

Peter arrived at St. Bart's as Associate Rector for Formation and Liturgy in early 2019. During his first two and a half years at St. Bart's, he reinvigorated its Sunday worship, elevated The Forum (a weekly guest speaker series), and shepherded the parish through COVID-19 with a plethora of online offerings. In the summer of 2021, Peter assumed the role of Vicar and took on the broader responsibility of coordinating all of the parish's various ministries and other programs. He was appointed Interim Rector in March 2025.

Peter came to the Episcopal Church at a young age through the chorister program at Washington National Cathedral. A graduate of Columbia and Yale, he served as Assistant Rector of St. Paul's on the Green in Norwalk, Connecticut before joining St. Bart's.

Outside of church, Peter stays active through weightlifting and long-distance running. He is an avid reader and loves both choral music and musical theater. He lives in Long Island City, Queens.
