Our 11 am service includes Holy Eucharist, congregational singing, and St. Bartholomew's Choir participating. Join us in person at St. Bart's (Park Avenue at 51st Street) or via live stream, below.
Several Sundays throughout the year are designated A Choral Feast and celebrate a specific theme, composer, or a major choral work. Today’s featured work is the Missa Brevis C Major, K. 259, “Orgelsolomesse” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. It is scored for soprano, alto, tenor, bass soloists and choir, trumpets, timpani, strings, and organ. The term Missa Brevis often refers to a Mass setting that omits the Gloria or Credo. This setting includes both, though we will recite the Creed this morning. The Mass derives its nickname “Orgelsolomesse” (organ solo Mass) from the obbligato organ part in the Benedictus. This is one of three Masses, all in C Major, that Mozart wrote in November and December 1776 for Salzburg Cathedral. A special thank you to the supporters of St. Bart’s Sacred Music Campaign whose generosity makes possible the additional rehearsals and resources needed for these services throughout the year.
