Beyond the Biblical Canon

What were the criteria for including some books in the Bible and excluding others? Led by Jeremy Hultin, Associate Professor of Biblical Languages at Union Theological Seminary, this series of three talks will introduce some of the ancient Jewish and Christian texts that were popular and influential in their time and yet were not ultimately included in either community’s “Bible.” As we will see, even after there was a general consensus about the contents of the Bible, many non-canonical texts continued to be read and valued.
