A Choral Feast: Messe Solenelle, Op. 16

"A Choral Feast" presents the opportunity to experience great sacred choral repertoire within their original context of a worship service. On Sunday, February 15, St. Bartholomew's Choir presents the Messe Solenelle, Op. 16, for choir and two organs by Louis Vierne (1870-1937). The work dates from 1900, when Vierne took up the post of titular organist at Notre-Dame de Paris, where he served the rest of his life. The work is written on a majestic scale for that magnificent cathedral and will be presented in an arrangement adding brass and timpani to Vierne's original.
