Stewardship FAQ

Why make a gift to St. Bart’s in NYC?

St. Bart’s, like other Episcopal churches across the US, pursues its mission as it prays, and worships, proclaims the Gospel, and promotes justice, peace, and love.  At St. Bart’s, our mission is to comfort, challenge and inspire a growing community of diverse people to live out the good news of Jesus Christ. Your gift makes possible the vital ministries of the church to be the light and leaven in New York City and beyond.

How do I make a gift or pay my pledge to St. Bart’s Church?

There are many ways to give to St. Bart’s! You can place cash or check in the offering plate as it is passed during worship, or in the basin as you leave the church. You can give online at bit.ly/STB-Give or by scanning the QR code, posted in St. Bart’s Central and in the leaflet, using your phone. You can also mail your gift, payable to St. Bartholomew’s Church in the City of New York to St. Bart’s Stewardship Office, 325 Park Avenue, New York, NY 10022. You may choose to give via a Donor Advised Fund (DAF), Individual Retirement Account (IRA), family foundation, estate, or stock account.  For more information and instructions, contact Jama Toung at   or 212-378-0278.

A pledge is a written declaration of commitment to donate a specific amount of money over the year. If you’re new to church and getting acquainted, you are encouraged to give what you feel moved to give. Most importantly, we want you to come back and get to know us, and allow us to know you. We believe that giving back to God, what has come from God, is a faith practice.

A pledge is a financial commitment. Each year St. Bart’s will ask you to prayerfully consider making an annual pledge to the Stewardship Campaign.  The amount of your pledge is something to which you will want to give prayerful consideration. You are encouraged to use “proportional giving” which means you or your household select a proportion of your income that you are comfortable contributing. As you consider giving, consider all that you have been given by God– your life, your friendships, your family, your talent, your financial resources – and from there give in proportion to the gifts you have received.

You can make a pledge in one of three easy ways:
1. In worship, on Commitment Sunday, the St. Bart’s community comes together to pledge.
2. Declare your pledge by clicking here and submit our online pledge card.
2. By contacting Jama Toung at   or 212-378-0278.

Why is the St. Bart's community asked to make an annual pledge?

When you or your household signs a pledge card for support, you are making a statement. A signed pledge card is a sign of your commitment to Christ and the Church. Your pledge also helps the Vestry, clergy, and staff as they craft the annual church budget.

What do my stewardship gifts support?

Stewardship gifts cover half of the church’s operating budget and enable us to open our doors to all. Your gifts support the diverse ministries of St. Bart’s including live and virtual worship, education, fellowship, faith-formation, pastor care, youth and family programs, and outreach. All of St. Bart’s ministries are designed to renew our hearts and minds so that we may fully experience Christ’s love. Clergy, musicians, and staff combine their talents to create transcendent worship and to support ministry to our city, the nation, and the world.

Yes, your gifts are tax-deductible. St. Bart’s is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a Federal Tax ID# of 13-5651315. All donations to St. Bart’s, aside from tickets or registration fees for events, are fully tax-deductible.

Yes.  Your preferences around recognition will be honored. Donors are informed in advance when there will be a listing of donors, and requests to be anonymous are always honored. St. Bart’s holds donor information in confidence and does not share it with anyone.

Absolutely. In creating a will, you can determine the use and distribution of your assets after death, including providing for your beneficiaries, managing or reducing your estate taxes and expenses, and establishing specific bequests, including St. Bart’s, as a charitable beneficiary.  You can name St. Bart’s as receiving a percentage share of your total assets or as a direct beneficiary of specific assets such as a life insurance policy, IRA, qualified retirement plan, or revocable and irrevocable trusts. Your gift of any size to St. Bart’s makes a profound difference. Generous support, across the generations, has ensured St. Bart’s vital ministry in the City of New York since 1835.  For more information contact Jama Toung at   or 212-378-0278.
