Announcing Alexander Pattavina as Associate Organist and Choirmaster

November 05, 2021

Dear St. Bart's Community,

We are delighted to welcome Alexander Pattavina as Associate Organist and Choirmaster. In this role, Alex will direct St. Bartholomew's Choristers, work closely with St. Bart's Singers and St. Bartholomew's Choir, and serve as organist in services and concerts.

Alex was first drawn to his vocation as a chorister at St. Paul's Choir School, Harvard Square, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, one of the strongest chorister programs in the country. The position of organ scholar was created there for him while he was still a high school student. Alex then came to New York City to earn Bachelor's and Master's degrees in organ at The Juilliard School. While at Juilliard, he served as organ scholar at St. Michael's Episcopal Church on the Upper West Side and later at Christ Church in Bronxville, New York, where he assisted with their flourishing choral program for children and youth. For the past three years, Alex has served as Director of Music at St. Agnes Church, only a few blocks away from St. Bart’s in Midtown.

He is an accomplished organ recitalist, having performed at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Mechanics Hall (Worcester), Trinity Church Copley Square (Boston), and Methuen Memorial Music Hall, among other venues. In 2019, he won first place in the prestigious Albert Schweitzer Organ Festival. He is also a composer whose Christmas carol “All in a Stable Cold and Bare” was published by Hal Leonard in 2018.

Alex writes, "I am thrilled and honored to join St. Bart's thriving church community, one that has continuously celebrated the role of music in worship since its founding. I am extremely excited to make music with Paolo, the St. Bart’s Singers, St. Bartholomew’s Choir, and I am particularly eager to work with the much-loved Choristers. I also look forward to meeting and getting to know the members of the parish!"

Alex’s first Sunday with us will be November 21. Please join us in warmly welcoming him.

Sincerely,

Dr. Paolo Bordignon
