Check out what’s happening this Sunday

Hope Prevails

by The Right Reverend Dean E. Wolfe on April 08, 2023

Dear Friends,

Episcopalian and author Madeline L’Engle once wrote,

“Easter is always the answer to ‘My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?’”

The Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the high feast of the Church Year, comes at the end of what seems like a never-ending Lenten season. This year it comes at the end of a pandemic, financial turbulence, and a level of political polarization, which seems to be reaching historic levels. This Easter Day is cause for a true celebration and we will use every one of the 50 days of Eastertide to celebrate this transformative event in our lives and in our world.  Still, no day will be more celebrative than Easter Sunday... and we invite you to join in the celebration.

With great liturgy, special music, and preaching, we will celebrate Christ’s victory over death and the grave. Even while we are still shaking off our “COVID hangover,” we’re invited to rejoice fully in this season of joy, blessing, and faith. As one pundit humorously expressed it, “It isn’t about the bunny. It’s about the Lamb.”

So, come and join us this Saturday at 7:00 pm for the unparalleled beauty of the Easter Vigil liturgy, the first celebration of the Resurrection.  And then join us on Sunday at 8 am, 9 am, and 11 am (or again at 5:00 pm) for an extraordinary Easter Day worship experience.  If you can’t attend in person, our 11:00 am Easter Sunday Festal Eucharist will be live-streamed and available on YouTube, Facebook, and on our website.

In his book, Crying in the Wilderness, Archbishop Desmond Tutu wrote, “Easter means... hope prevails over despair, Jesus reigns as Lord of Lords and King of Kings... Easter says to us that despite everything to the contrary, his will for us will prevail, love will prevail over hate, justice over injustice and oppression, peace over exploitation and bitterness.”

No wonder we celebrate this holy day with such great joy and enthusiasm!

In the Name of the Risen Christ,

The Right Reverend Dean E. Wolfe
