Introducing Jama Toung

December 01, 2021

Dear Friends,
I am pleased to announce that Jama Toung has been called to join the St. Bart's staff as Director of Stewardship and Development. Jama will assume the good work done by our Interim Coordinator of Stewardship and Development, Michael Collins. Our intention in calling Jama is to enlarge this ministry to support our parish programs coming out of the pandemic.
Jama (pronounced Jay'-ma) has worked in the field of development for the past 18 years and brings deep experience in strategy and culture, data, industry best practices, and sound, consistent implementation to her new work at St. Bart’s. She most recently served as Vice President of Development at the Ackerman Institute for the Family, leading a nationwide fundraising program focused on major gifts, events, and engagement of alumni and practitioners. Previously, she served for ten years as Vice President for Advancement at ExpandED Schools.
Additionally, Jama has held a variety of leadership roles as a member of Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church here in Manhattan. She is ordained as an Elder, has chaired committees ranging from Family Ministries to Mission Partners, and she serves on the Anti-Racism Response Team.
Jama graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Human Service Studies and earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work, Community Organization, Management, and Planning from Boston University. She lives in Washington Heights with her husband David and their children, Sienna, 13 and Collin, 11. Apart from her work, Jama enjoys all things community, including family meals, group hikes, service projects, and NYC culture, as well as a quiet spot with a good view and book.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to the search group of Susannah Wade-Lewis, Catherine Belford Budd, Miriam Schneider, and John Gilliland who gave their time and expertise to the discernment process. I also want to thank Michael Collins for his dedicated service over the past fourteen months in an interim role.
Faithfully,
The Right Reverend Dean E. Wolfe
Rector
