What happens after a newcomer takes their first step towards membership by filling out a Connect Card? With a variety of classes, community groups, and other programming to choose from, it can be difficult for beginners to discern the next step in their faith journey. And while some folks revel in the busy buzz of coffee hour, others may feel completely alone in a crowd full of people. In response to these challenges, St. Bart’s is launching a new initiative called the Philip Team!
The Philip Team derives its name from the apostle Philip, who introduced Nathanael (aka Bartholomew) to Jesus in the Gospel of John. Just as Philip facilitated the meeting between St. Bartholomew and Jesus, we hope that the Philip Team will help newcomers see Christ’s presence in our congregation.
Philip Team members will shepherd newcomers into our community by accompanying them to worship services and church events, serving as mentors, and making time for conversation and connection during their first few months at St. Bart’s. These efforts will allow newcomers to receive individualized attention from current parishioners.
Each person reflects and magnifies God’s love in a unique and personal way, and each member has a distinct perspective to offer about their time at St. Bart’s. I hope you’ll consider sharing your experience and insight as one of our first Philip Team members! I encourage you to sign up here.
