Advent and Christmas are wonderful seasons at St. Bart’s, with beautiful music and services for all ages. As a designated New York City landmark, located conveniently in midtown Manhattan close to most all major hotels, St. Bart’s is a perfect place to celebrate. We are a welcoming parish, open to all. ADVENT SCHEDULE

ADVENT 1: Sunday, December 1, 2019 †

Eucharist at 8 am, 9 am *, 11 am *, and 5 pm

10 am Advent Fair for All Ages
O come, O come to St. Bart’s as we step into Advent Season to prepare for the birth of Jesus!  There will be Advent wreath-making, and ornament-making. Hot chocolate, cider, and treats will be served.

Friday, December 6

6 to 9 pm St. Nicholas Party for Young Adults 
St. Barts 20’s/ 30’s Group and the Episcopal Diocese of New York Young Adult Network invite all young adults to a St. Nicolas Party at St. Bart's. Festivities will include a photo booth, holiday karaoke with a live band and more. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres provided. A suggested donation of $20 and/or non-perishable food items will go to Crossroads Community Services.

ADVENT 2: Sunday, December 8 †

Eucharist at 8 am, 9 am *  and 11 am  * 

5 pm Festival of Advent Lessons and Carols  The beautiful prophecies of the coming of Christ will be read alternating with splendid Advent carols and anthems. A festive reception will follow the service.  Eucharist in the chapel follows the service for those who wish.

Tuesday, December 10

5:45 pm Midtown Carol Sing-Along on St. Bart’s front steps; warm up with hot chocolate, cider and cookies inside the church afterwards

Saturday, December 14

7:30 pm A Joyous Christmas Concert.  Hear St. Bartholomew’s Choir celebrate the sounds of Christmas, singing beloved traditional settings, as well as exuberant, new arrangements of sacred and secular holiday favorites.  A sold-out program in past seasons, you won’t want to miss it!   Click here for tickets.

Tuesday, December 17

7:30 pm Adoration of The Magi Concert in the Chapel.   Jeff Morrissey, Baritone, and Bill Trafka return to St. Bart’s with their popular Christmas program inspired by the elegant paintings found in our Chapel.  Click here for tickets.

Saturday, December 21 at 6 pm 

Light in the Darkness—A Service of Hope †
 The days leading up to Christmas can be some of the most joyous ones in the year. But they can also be especially difficult for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one, those who are struggling with illness, those who are dismayed by the rancor of our politics, or those who simply find the pain of the world too much to bear. On this longest night of the year, come and celebrate the Light that shines through every kind of darkness in this quiet, contemplative, and hopeful service held in the candlelit, cavernous space of our beautiful church.

ADVENT 4: Sunday, December 22 †

Eucharist at 8 am, 9 am* and 11 am*

5 pm Christmas Lessons and Carols:  Join in singing the most beautiful music of the season, with the combined choirs and organ, in the candle-lit sanctuary held at St. Bart’s for the first time. Eucharist in the chapel follows the service for those who wish.

CHRISTMAS EVE: Tuesday, December 24 

12:05 pm A Quiet Christmas Eucharist (in the Chapel) 
An intimate service, with congregational carols, that embraces the quiet joy of Christmas.

4 pm:  Christmas Pageant and Festival Eucharist 
Featuring music led by St. Bart's Choristers and a Christmas Pageant where all children are invited to join in sharing the story of the Nativity.  This service is especially nice for families who want to come to church and still have time for family and friends that night.

7 pm:   Christmas Eve Festival Eucharist 
(Choral Prelude begins at 6:30 pm)

Featuring music led by all three of our choirs: St. Bartholomew’s Choir, St. Bart’s Singers, and St. Bart’s Choristers. This is a big joyful festival service when we “pull out all the stops.”

11 pm:  Christmas Eve Festival Eucharist (with incense) † 
(Choral Prelude begins at 10:30 pm)
Featuring music led by all three of our choirs: St. Bartholomew’s Choir, St. Bart’s Singers, and St. Bart’s Choristers.  This is a big joyful festival service when we “pull out all the stops.”

CHRISTMAS DAY: Wednesday, December 25 

11 am: Christmas Day Choral Eucharist
Our singular service on Christmas morning is a big joyful celebration featuring music led by St. Bartholomew's Choir.  This is a wonderful service for those who enjoy a festive service in the light of Christmas Day. 

New Years Eve:  Tuesday, December 31

11 pm A Concert to Usher in the New Year
Paolo Bordignon, organist
Ring in the new year with a fun & festive concert at 11 pm, followed by a champagne reception at midnight. Hear music from Bach and Mozart to Johann Strauss Sr. and see it played with the console out front-and-center. St. Bartholomew’s is known around the world as home to one of the world’s (and NYC’s) largest pipe organs, with its thrilling chorus of 12,422 pipes and the recently-restored Celestial division housed in the dome.  Admission is free; no tickets or reservations are necessary. There will be a champagne reception afterwards.
