Two of America's leading choral conductors, Dr. Anton Armstrong and Dr. André Thomas, explore the African-American spiritual, a much-beloved art form that emerged from the pain and horror of slavery. Dr. Armstrong (https://www.stolaf.edu/profile/armstron) is the Tosdal Professor of Music at St. Olaf College and the Conductor of the world-famous St. Olaf Choir. Dr. Thomas (https://www.drandrethomas.com/), also a composer and arranger, recently retired as the Owen F. Sellers Professor of Music, Director of Choral Activities, and Professor of Choral Music Education at Florida State University. He currently serves as Visiting Professor of Choral Conducting at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music.
