In the wake of the disastrous World War I, which “weakened idealism and deepened a cynical materialism,” as well as having “left the youth of the Country widely and deeply alienated from the Church and from organized religion,” Bishop Charles Gore wrote the volumes making up "The Reconstruction of Belief.” His intention was to create a systematic theology for lay readers, both Christian and non-Christian. Gore firmly believed that each person had to choose what they believed, freely. In the four volumes of The Reconstruction of Belief, Gore stakes his claim for Christianity as a reasonable and true faith.
Over five Wednesdays, January 5, 12, 26, and February 2 and 9, from 6:30-8:00 pm., Deacon John Wirenius will present the systematic theology Gore sketched out in the series, discussing other popular theologians in harmony with Gore’s basic project.
