Temporary Scaffolding Up at St. Bart's

by The Reverend Dean E. Wolfe on November 11, 2021

Dear Friends,

During the last five years, St. Bartholomew’s Church in the City of New York has completed a record number of construction projects to repair the exterior of our National Historic Landmark church. If you visit St. Bart’s in person over the next several weeks, you will see extensive scaffolding built across the front of our building. You may still enter through the main front and chapel doors for services, but workmen will be spot-pointing the masonry and gently cleaning the façade of the front of the building (while tending to some additional damage created by birds.) We are told the final results of this work will be quite stunning.

While the scaffolding is up, our architects will also take the opportunity to examine more closely the damage on the front façade for its eventual complete and thorough restoration.  We plan to have the preliminary projects completed and the scaffolding down by the middle of December. We also plan to wrap the temporary construction wall with eye-catching messaging to help let people know they are welcomed to attend our extensive Advent and Christmas programming.

We know that during the busy Christmas season, hundreds of thousands of people are drawn to Midtown Manhattan for shopping, shows, dining, and other entertainment. As our city begins to slowly move beyond the pandemic, we hope to take full advantage of every opportunity to welcome people to our extraordinary parish.  I hope you’ll come and take a peek at the extraordinary progress we are making.

In Christ,

The Right Reverend Dean E. Wolfe, D.D.
Rector
