A History of Christianity: From Pentecost to the Reformation
Sundays, October 18-November 22, 1-2:30 pm
Dr. Robin Brooks Ishler offers a sweeping account of the first 1,600 years of Christian history, examining the social, political, and intellectual forces that shaped the development of Christian institutions and the Church’s efforts to address the foundational theological questions at its core. In doing so, the course explores the Church’s relationship to the state, power, identity, and authority as it surveys the political and religious drama of Late Antiquity, the Middle Ages, and the early modern period. Taught in an engaging seminar style, the course encourages discussion, debate, and respectful dialog, with the aim of inviting participants to learn from each other as they reflect upon the Christian past.
