On Monday, November 1, we were honored to welcome His All Holiness, the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew as he toured the church during his recent visit to New York City. His All Holiness oversees Greek Orthodox Christians and recently finished his historic visit to the United States where he was received by President Biden at the White House and Speaker Pelosi at the Capitol Building. He also received an honorary doctorate from the University of Notre Dame. Patriarch Bartholomew has been a leader in the environmental movement and active in promoting peaceful dialogue between Christians, Muslims, and Jews.
The Reverend Peter Thompson and Percy Preston greeted him warmly and Organist and Choirmaster Paolo Bordignon played the organ.
His All-Holiness Bartholomew was elected in October 1991 as the 270th Archbishop of the 2000-year-old Church founded by the Apostle Andrew. His formal office is entitled “Archbishop of Constantinople-New Rome, and Ecumenical Patriarch,” a historic title dating to the sixth century.
