A Different Kind of Fast: Feeding Our True Hungers in Lent

A Contemplative Justice Series Thursday Nights in Lent

In-Person, 5:30 - 6:45 pm in the Chapel, Thursdays February 15 - March 21

Christine Valters Paintner is the online abbess at Abbey of the Arts, a virtual global monastery without walls that offers resources to nurture contemplative practice and creative expression.  Utilizing Christine’s book A Different Kind of Fast, we will spend six weeks focusing on various angles for fasting, such as fasting from attachment, grasping, control, certainty, and deadlines, through the lens of contemplative practices. 

Incorporating methods such as lectio divina, breath prayer, visio divina, meditation with desert wisdom, creative rituals, and walking meditation, we will aim to root ourselves in contemplative stillness where the still, small voice of God can be perceived most readily. 

Throughout this series, we will integrate practical opportunities for advocacy and service as a baseline fast from the complacency that undermines our realization of beloved community. Toward this end, we will make space to engage local leaders, both spiritual and secular, for inspiration and guidance on how best to direct our attention.
